However, I would beg to differ on that point with Professor Keen. From my reading of history, it was WW11 that bought the world out of the Depression. Suddenly the banks found all the money and liquidity that was needed to build weapons of mass destruction. Where as they had not been able to find the money for around a decade to build a factory. There is a word that rhymes with bankers, and it is oh so apt.

1 Vote(s)

In a well reasoned analysis of the current economic dilemma, or can we call it a crisis now, Professor Keen pointed out that at some point the level of debt cannot be increased. He also pointed out that Bernanke gained his reputation as an expert on the Great Depression of the 1930's. Hmmmm, what was so great about it? The trouble is, this is the Depression of the 21st Century. Bernanke, like all academics, is quite brilliant at analysing, but like everyone else on this planet, he isn't so hot at predicting.

1 Vote(s)

From China's point of view, Tibet has always been a part of China. Mao, for all the demonising of the West, essentially wanted to reduce the inequality between the haves and the have-nots. He perceived that Tibet was run by a lot of very rich monks in very rich monasteries who lived off the sweat and labour of the peasants. He reasoned that all the wealth should be more evenly distributed. So, the Dalai Lama was regarded by China as simply another leader who wanted (wants) his power back. The monks, as a ruling elite who simply wanted their power back.

1 Vote(s)

Lump sum payments at the whim of opportunistic politicians are nothing more than patronising handouts. When are pensioners to be treated with respect and given a pension that truly reflects the cost of living? Rather than the theft by stealth under the guise of CPI adjustments which do not even come close to compensating for the rising cost of living. Why don't the pollies adjust the pension by the same percentage amount they raise their own incomes & allowances? Yeah, I know, silly suggestion, pollies prefer to treat pensioners like beggars and throw them scraps from time to time.

1 Vote(s)

It is not the attitude of teenagers that should be targeted, except as an adjunct, it is the attitude of parents. Society should be debating why the parents of those teenagers embroiled in binge drinking have abrogated their responsibility. Society should censure them. The fundamental character of all children is formed by their parents. As such, it is the parents who should be held accountable for that character.

1 Vote(s)

It has to be time to seriously consider crawling back into the market, doing a bit of strategic guerrilla warfare. The press is all doom and gloom, which is a great indicator that a bounce is coming soon. Did you notice at the all time high, just a few weeks ago, we were headed for the stratosphere. Now, we are all going to be buried. Great indicators for a trader!

2 Vote(s)

This headline was not a reference to the regulators seating arrangements. No, it was yet another useless flurry to try to regulate the stock market, a prime example of a politician wanting to be seen to be doing something.Yes, it's Wayne again.Short selling has raised its head as the bogeyman. After all, the people in the market couldn't have just been greedy or stupid, could they??!! Short selling is a time-honoured method of transferring wealth from the ill informed to the informed; it's been going on since we were all amebae. That is the general purpose of the stock market.

1 Vote(s)
