Let's say that you're a good local band, who plays once a month, at a medium sized venue, something like the Rob Roy used to be. You get a good crowd, which in Melbourne is between 100 and 200 people, unless you're famous. Let's also say that the venue doesn't take any money from the door price, though many do. Tickets are $10 and there are three bands. The headline band would get about $4 from that, with the remaining $6 split between supports. So, assuming it's a good gig and 200 people turn up, that's $800.

Not a lot, sure, but if it's a four piece band that means taking home $200 each, so that's not so bad is it (I hope you're not stupid enough to be in a 6 piece)? Well...
