DIY Sprays Review

I was reading up on do-it-yourself homemade bug sprays after coming across a reference to a nicotine tea spray. I'm just a curious sort...why would you spray something on your garden that health experts have been telling us to avoid for years? I've always thought of DIY as the 'organic solution'. Garlic sprays, chilli sprays and so on seem harmless enough. No nasty chemical residues and toxic environmental results...and they have that vegie garden appeal.
