Jess

Jess is a twenty five year old Sydney Melbourne gal who has been described by various people as “having a penchant for theatrics”, being “vaguely menacing but somewhat sexual” and “a lecherous, drunken disappointment to the family”. The latter was particularly harsh, but Jess’s mother has never been one to mince words.

She reads far too many trashy magazines, enjoys banging out appalling cover versions of songs on the guitar, and the other day an Amnesty International representative offered her spare change on a street corner in Fitzroy.

She is known to regurgitate the latest ‘news’ from NW Magazine on 2SER in Sydney (Wednesday mornings around 8am) and also sporadically gives her two cents regarding Big Brother and other extremely important cultural topics on the Boxcutters podcast.

Along with the charming and knowledgeable Clem Bastow, she hosts the radio show I’d Rather Jack on RRR (102.7) in Melbourne every Wednesday night from midnight. If you tune in, you’ll get to hear Britney Spears followed by The Drones followed by Eurovision’s 1964 winning entry followed by You Am I followed by Dusty Springfield, so that’s nice.

She and the charming George H present EBC Rock and Pop Culture Trivia (aka So You Think You’re A Clever Cunt?) at The East Brunswick Club each Tuesday night from 7.30pm. Ten dollar parmas and innapropriate jokes run wild. Do come along sometime.

On a Wednesday night, she and her beloved faux-bro Dave the Scot host rock and pop culture trivia at The Corner in Richmond. Their burgers are to die for, and you can also get a $12 parma-and-pot deal WHICH IS VERY NICE, ISN’T IT?

She is quite poor almost all the time. If you know of something which could help her pay the rent, shoot her an email. Remember though - she’d do anything for money, but she won’t do that. No, she won’t do that*.

Here are some random things she likes very much at the moment.

- The “$5 For 3 Cans Of V” deal at the local Foodworks.
- Reading books in parks.
- Horoscopes.
- Behaving herself.
- The Zombies’ This Will Be Our Year
- YouTube videos.
- Door bitching.
- Her talented friends and associates.

She doesn’t enjoy talking in the third person all that much, and she is becoming increasingly bitter as she pens this updated About page that Patrick, web designer extraordinaire and co-conspirator in the travesty that is ausculture.com, has taken his own bio down. Just know he’s a bad man, and he smells a fair bit - but boy, can he make websites! Look at him go! Snaps to Patrick!

While she’s terrible at replying to email (time management issues, you see), she absolutely loves receiving them. Please feel free to say hello any time and reassure her that it’s not just her mother (sporadically) reading this site by emailing jessculture at gmail.com.
