Bolt Steps In - The Miranda Hairy-Branson Affair

How. Thoroughly. Marvellous.

Andrew Bolt, right-wing piss-stain from the Herald Sun, has stepped forth via his newspaper column to defend the honour of Miranda Airey-Branson. She, as you may well remember, is the Young Liberal who copped a battering in the Lefty Blogosphere ever since an article in The Age last week named her as one of the people handing out slightly misleading How To Vote cards in Melbourne on voting day while trying to look like Greens representative.

The first person to take a swing was Ms Fits, the much adored blogger who it would seem most online lefties want to make hippy babies with. She found Miranda’s personal blog and linked to it. Other bloggers soon jumped on board, revelling in the truly dreadful neo-con diary entries Miranda seemed so proud of. At least, she was proud of it when the only people to read it were her beloved posse of Melbourne Uni Young Liberals. Once the Left discovered it and began responding to many of her posts, her website was surprisingly taken down.

So anyway, where were we? Oh, that’s right - Andrew Bolt. Handy Andy actually appeared in Miranda’s blog entries, after she referred to interviewing him for the Melbourne University paper Farrago. Suitably fawning, she talked to him about how sexy he was etc, which no doubt left him with a soft spot (and, presumably, a hard one) for Miranda.

When Miranda spent the latter part of last week being forced (gasp!) to defend some of the more idiotic statements she’d made on her site to appalled lefty bloggers, well - someone had to step in. Cue Andrew Bolt deciding to devote an entire newspaper column to slagging off Marieke Hardy (aka the mysterious Ms Fits).

The column is written in the guise of reprimanding Hardy for a speech she gave at a writers conference in Sydney last weekend. While it’s clear he’s trawled through her blog’s more recent entries to quote her at her foul-mouth best, Bolt also appears to be the master of Google. Yes, she was in The Henderson Kids II! Yes, she had a bit part on Neighbours as the wonderfully named Rhonda Brumby! LET US STONE HER TO DEATH!

Surprisingly, he doesn’t really delve into the Miranda matter all that much.

Yet I’m struck by how fast the Left’s compassion runs out, as Hardy demonstrates. On her website, she notes how The Age attacked the editor of the student newspaper Farrago, Miranda Airey-Branson, 20, whose social sin is to vote Liberal.

“Is there some slutty sweary ladybird on-line who is an out and proud Liberal,” Hardy jeers, before describing how she would sexually abuse Airey-Branson, whom she calls an “ugly ignorant c…” — wrongly I should add. “Then I’m going to p… on her.”

Note how he throws in that Ms Fits is “wrong” in calling Miranda Airey-Branson an ugly ignorant cunt. Because surely, boys and girls, an “ugly ignorant cunt” couldn’t possibly be the only person in the entire universe (other than Mrs Bolt, and Lord knows what’s going on in her head) to find Andrew Bolt sexy. It’s almost as if he’s trying to throw a bit of wooing Miranda’s way whilst still lambasting Marieke Hardy. Class.

I do feel compelled to point out to Mr Bolt (should he ever stumble across here in his Google travels) that claiming Miranda’s only “social sin is to vote Liberal” doesn’t quite ring true. How conveniently he forgets! Her social sins include making unintentionally-hilarious-whilst-being-utterly-offensive comments about lesbians, posing as a Greens representative on election day, and generally being an utter twat on her own website. Why no mention of any of this, Andrew? Why no referral to the fact Marieke didn’t just draw a Young Libs name out of a hat and attack them unjustly but rather was reacting to an article in The Age which talked of Miranda - your precious sweet nubile horse-jumping Bolt-salivating Miranda - indulging in some pretty underhanded stuff? Why pretend your article is stemming from disgust regarding her talk at a writer’s conference when we all know your connection to Airey-Branson and we’re all quite fully aware your entire article is a half-arsed attempt at defending a fellow conservative chum? Truly, I’m puzzled.

Phew. Bring on the next Blogosphere frenzy, followed by the next conservative columnist’s attempt at counter-attack. Albrechtsen, here’s looking at you…

PS: Apologies if the above is incoherent, misspelled, boring or plain daft. In the middle of moving and popped online quickly since I won’t have access to the net for a good few days. Stay out of trouble, and may Patrick keep you suitably amused!

I don’t know why people knock him so much. Most of what he writes, except for some of the Christian morality crap, makes a lot of sense.

Why?

Rusty is lampooned for the same reasons most other rightie-tighties cop it.

Rusty is stuck on a social Darwinist agenda which suits a wealthy, white few; a club, a small clique, to which some like Ms MAB, avaraciously aspire.

I recall many young women who went to uni to get their MRS degrees. Politically connected younr conservatives often make better providing husbands than do poor, honest lefties.

Leftie agendas are driven by conservation, humanitarian or social justice issues. Most have bases in the betterment of all persons instead of a few.

Rusty frequently conveniently omits bits of the tale which work against making his point. He’s an op writer, not an actual jouranlist, so it’s not a hanging offence, but it does tar him as a hypocrite.

Why does the moron who steps in to defend Bolt have to be from Perth? Honestly, we cop enough shit without people like you giving us a bad name.

I mainly hate Bolt because his columns are so fundamentally DISHONSET. He pulls out a couple of half-truths, jumps quickly through them to some sort of lunatic conclusion (Brown is a Nazi, the lefties “attacked” MAB because “her social sin is that she votes Liberal”, that sort of crap), and then spends the rest of his article bashing the target inaccurately but unrelentingly.

He’s dishonset. And his targets don’t have a proper right of reply.

Oh - and his targets are the disadvantaged in society, too. That doesn’t endear him to me particularly. But mainly the dishonesty really gets me. I can’t read a Bolty Rant without wanting to tear strips off the mongrel in a public forum.

More Bolt bashing?

Im seeing a lot of vitriol here and a lot of claims Bolt is a “liar”, but not a lot of examples.

I have a strong feeling you people are mistaking opinion with truth or fallacy, political ideology with right and wrong. This sort of attitude is why the majority of the country are fed up to the back teeth with the left.

I have news for you guys, your man wasn’t beaten in the election because people were “stupid” or “selfish” or “fooled”, it is because the present government is doing a good job and because Latham hitched his wagon to the wrong star, that of the lefter side of his party. As a result, Labor’s traditional blue-collar voter-base have become alienated and fled to the government.

As I said before, I don’t agree with everything Bolt says. A lot of it, especially the moralising about poker machines and issues of Christianity, drives me crazy, but it’s just his opinion. Some of the other stuff, like “The Stolen Generation” being nothing but a trendy catch-phrase tied to a myth, I agree with wholeheartedly. You might not, but instead of howling with rage and resorting to base insults, how about supplying some kind of retort? This blog and the competing blog of the conservative students are little more than self important mutual masturbation sessions. One day we will welcome you to the wonderful world of adulthood, where politics isn’t a game of one-upmanship, but a serious business of running the country.

Bolt IS a liar, Jobe. Especially in the Pandagate situation, which is the one I’m commenting on. It would seem you and I disagree when it comes to other issues that you’ve raised (Stolen Children, etc) but babes - you raised them, not this site. Let’s stick to topic before you rant on and then accuse ausculture.com of self important mutual masturbation.

Bolt’s article on Marieke Hardy was written after his beloved Miranda contacted him. He doesn’t lie too much in his article, so to speak, but he certainly withheld many facts which do influence why Marieke spoke out against Miranda in the first place (The Age article, HTV card issues, offensive blog comments, I could go on). He also doesn’t mention that he has had dealings with Miranda in the past (and he has lied on email since and denied this, so one wonders if they conducted the Farrago interview via ESP).

As for the current state of affairs, well - Bolt IS an out and out liar. He’s been caught basing articles on the petty affairs of 20 year old Young Libs, and he looks like a spankstain in the emails Rob Corr put online. So what does he do? He lies, emails Rob Corr’s boss and informs her that Rob is behind the whole thing (when not a shred of evidence exists to back that up - because… drum roll please… Rob WASN’T behind the whole thing!).

I must congratulate you on some superb use of condescension and patronisation in your final words though. Beware, chum - you nearly sound like an earnest university lefty!!

Well Jobe, you accuse us of mutual masturbation and then you go walking into the middle of everything, rubbing ejaculate all over yourself, dance around with glee and then walk off saying we’re childish.

I can see your point regarding us mistaking opinion with truth and fallacy though. I think the earth is flat but that’s not false because it’s just my opinion… you know.

In fact, I also think this statement is false… but then that’s just my opinion so it’s neither here nor there really.

I should point out that I don’t agree with everything I say. However I do think my statement that the earth is flat is true. Hence the earth is flat.

Not only is Bolt dishonest, but he has been found guilty of libel (Justice Jelana Popovic) http://www.theage.com.au/articles/ 2003/11/21/1069027329860.html.

The man is unbeleivable, the only people who swallow the viterol he spews out are the racist, the ignorant and the same sheep who swallow Howards lies
