Wow! I was watching the five o’clock news on Channel Ten tonight and they mentioned something about Guy being on American Idol. So I went to the official Idol website and it turns out he appeared on the latest episode (which’ll be screened in Australia on Sunday) and sang for the crowd, which should be a massive boost for his career (has Robbie ever had 26 million Americans watch him sing? He should give it a bash!).
I just wish he didn’t have to sing the uber-sucky tune “Angel Brought Me Here”. Honestly, when will that song lay down and die? I had a listen to the Guy Sebastian album online a few months back and remembered being quite impressed with a song of his called “No One Can Compare To You” which had a funky, slow-but-good vibe to it. For some reason, it made me think of Prince but maybe that’s just me. I think Guy is a real love-him-or-hate-him character, but I have to confess to actually really liking him. Sure, I wish he didn’t carry on with half that vocal acrobatic rubbish, but I think we can expect something quite good from him in the future. Unfortunately, I don’t hold the same hopes for dear old Shannon Noll but hey - there’s a gap in the Jimmy Barnes market in Oz - maybe he can fill that?
Posted by Jess at May 20, 2004 06:09 PMInterestingly, he was originally going to sing Climb Every Mountain, but it was quite clear after watching last night that the song was obviously changed due to a problem with his voice. Notice the bloke didn’t attempt a high note all song …

Spot on, D - I noticed that myself. I hate the song more than words can say, but I thought some of the high acrobatic bits might impress the yanks and I was surprised when he kept going the low road. Also at one point, I’m not sure if my telly buggered up or not but I swear I heard something akin to a bark come out of his mouth?! Very odd.
Anyhoo, from the tv ads by Channel Ten I was expecting rapturous applause from the Americans but in reality I thought the reaction was slightly luke-warm. Shame, would have been a great opportunity for Guy. Still - not over yet, and Guy’s talented enough for me to keep the faith. Next up: Shannon Noll’s appearance on Survivor?
