ausculture.com was started back in January 2004 with the idea of being "Ausculture is an exploration of Australian culture, and a look at pop culture around the world from an Australian perspective."
The original blog (including the feed) is still online at http://www.ausculture.com/blog/ though it is currently inactive
In order to jump on the latest bandwagon the site needed some sort of community based popularity ranking. Also, there are no active writers and it's generally easier to turn the whole nonsense into a link farm... until everything goes pear-shaped

Give it a try, publish some content. If you still hate it after an extended time you can complain to one of the many email addresses that don't get read like surly "at" ausculture.com. You can even go stare at the old homepage if you like... It's at http://www.ausculture.com/index.html.
