Tips for domain registration
- Auto renewal, using a credit card or debit card of some sort can make things easier… Until your credit card expires.
- Of course, if you manage a numer of domains under the same registrar it’s fine - you’ll notice next time you log in. Unless it’s that one domain you registered elsewhere for reasons unknown.
- Which isn’t such an issue really, you’ll get a reminder notice that your domain is about to expire… Unless the renewal notice goes to an old email address you rarely check.
- However, as soon as you notice that a domain has expired, you can quickly go to the registrar, log in and renew it. Unless you’ve forgotten the password.
- If you’ve forgotten the password, you can get a replacement emailed to you. Unless you had the email account deleted a year ago.
- Which means you have to ring the registrar, and then fax them some proof of identification. That’s the way it works with this particular registrar anyway.
- So then, you can re-register that domain. Unless (hypothetically) you didn’t register the domain under your own name. Now that would put you in a bit of a pickle.
You’d need to do something like ring your old ISP and somehow get your email account back. They’re only human, they’ll understand. Right?
Yes.
Unless you left them on less than amicable terms (for whatever reason) and you still owe them money.
Now, anyone who knows me would know that I’d never be so careless as to do all of the above. I’m just saying.

Why are we discussing such things when ANNA NICOLE SMITH IS DEAD!?!?!
Posted by: Ruth | February 9, 2007 10:58 PM
It was a dramatic few days where it was touch-and-go for Ausculture (the drama evidently being lost on Ruth).
Well done, Patrick, for battling it out and winning. As The Bard would say, “All’s well that ends well.”

I think Jess is more the person to discuss the passing of Anna Nicole Smith.

Sounds like a tense and dramatic few days there, Patrick. So glad to see Jess hadn't pulled the plug.
As for Anna Nicole, the editor of New Idea was on Today Tonight last night and informed us that she was "literally a train wreck".
God love Australian Culture.

The trainwreck - you know you shouldn't look but you just can't help it.

so did u have to just give up and sleep with someone to get it sorted then?

ISP support staff are human?!
Posted by: jazza | February 12, 2007 10:15 PM
Actually no, they're not human and yes, I had to sleep with one to get the domain back. No... wait.
Anyway - I had to get that old email address back. Which was not quite fun.

What I love is when the registrar takes it upon themselves to place a generic site wide parking page full of adverts taking advantage of the situation thus kicking web site owner in the groin region a few more times to remind them of the position they are in.
Good to see you were able to get it back though. I've heard some Anna Nicole style tragedies with trying to get domains renewed in similar cases like this.
