Not That I’m Sceptical…
Christie reveals that she graduated high school with a T.E.R. score of 96. She says: “I’ve got brains. I don’t use them all the time.” “Are you dead set?” asks Dean. Christie nods and grins: “You wouldn’t pick it.”
… but can anyone confirm this is true? I couldn’t shake off a deep feeling of confliction when I read it.

I think maybe her mind just gets misconstrued? :)
I believe Christie for two reasons. First of all, she reminds me a lot of a friend at highschool who was academically brilliant, but socially very blonde. She was very gullible, and used to come out with really dumb (but so amusing) one-liners.
Secondly, she'd be REALLY stupid to say that on national TV if it wasn't true. I said the same thing of Gianna's claims (they all turned out to be true, just not always entire truths).
Christie has gone and slapped a figure on it... surely she wouldn't take a risk like that?
Ahh, who knows.

If I hear the word confliction one more time I'm going to have to say something to the PM about it.
Posted by: Ladycracker | June 15, 2005 11:48 AM
This makes me want to cry if it is true.
Because she's not just "socially blonde" she seriously behaves as though she's illiterate and/or completely ignorant.
"There was a World War Two in Germany?" etc
If she isn't actually as dumb as she acts then that's even worse. Because what would compel someone with academic aptitude (which is what TER measures, as opposed to straight-out intelligence) to behave like such a fucking moron?
Unless, she's performing a playful ruse on the public, to draw attention to the fetishising of moronic behaviour in tarty young women*
but this unlikely, though hopeful proposition doesn't really hold since she has apparently "revealed" her true *intellect capacity.
I'll be quiet now...

The use of confliction seems to be increasingly prevalent amongst the other housemates - one of the Logans used it in yesterdays TV show. I pray it doesn't enter the national lexicon.
As someone who considers themselves a gullible social retard I still managed the equivalent of a 99 average in the WA TEE just over a decade ago, and I think it is far from a true reflection of social intelligence in particular, and most high scores are derived from scores in maths and physical sciences predominantly...not in history, literature or the like. The mildly autistic are still capable of doing very well in these systems, especially if they attend a private school competing for "score publicity" where students are heavily tutored towards optimising performance rather than acquiring knowledge....as reflected in the dropoff in relative university performance of such students when required to self-direct their learning.

She's 19.
She comes from Sutherland Shire, and thus, NSW.
In NSW, the TER has been called the UAI for around 6 years.
Methinks she's lying. Besides, didn't she say something about failing school because she never did any work?

I KNOW!!
What worries me most is- Why hasn't anyone in the house said anything yet??
Kate? Tim? Come on, there are kids watching!
How, oh how, are we going undo this damage...
Posted by: Q | June 15, 2005 3:43 PM
'going TO undo this damage...'
christ, it's catching. The dumbness, I feel it... creeping, all over me, like one of those...creepy...stuff.
Posted by: Q | June 15, 2005 3:49 PM
If she is from the Sutherland Shire and 19 she is lying through her TEETH.
No one... but NO ONE calls the UAI a TER if they completed the HSC post-1999 when it was first introduced. Since they are all in their 20's it would be safe to assume most would be more familiar with the term "UAI" since it has been circulated for almost 6 years.
If we could find out her last name, you could google it to see if she got in the Order of Merit /distinguished achievers lists.. that is if your are want to be obsessive about it (looks around room)

Maybe Tim has convinced CHristie that lying to people is a smart thing to do, the guy is constantly fabricating stories and even let Christie in on the one about having two kidneys. hehehe.

Way ahead of you, Mushroom...
looks round guiltily
I've already been trying to find out her last name. No one seems to know.

Not sure about the whole Australian education system myself, but Christie on the daily show today saying she doesn't 'get' Kate - hmm, the game is at the middle part of the season where you want most of the housemates to go, but you understand it has to be done in an order. My order currently is Rachael, Dean, Christy for the next three weeks. With Hotdogs as a wild card.
Kate is going to win cos she is the only nice, genuine, non lefty threatening to the average Australian person in the house. Am a bit worried about Tim hanging out too much with the macho boys - don't worry about your muscles boy, worry about your brain - I know all the braindead conversations must be taking their toll, but be strong, Timmy :)
And yes, I was sickened with Gretel's attempt on Sunday and Monday night to give a sainthood to Michelle. Yeah, Glenn is a prick, but it takes two to tango, 'oh, I'll just wander around the rewards room in a gstring, Glenn made me do everything' - yeah, right lady.
Maybe Gretel is snide towards Tim more than the other boys because she's still traumatised by somewhat politically minded Merlin from last season. Boys with brains, oh mi god, we can't have that in the big brother house.
And yes, I have noticed that she does the mock moral outrage thing well, when she is really really revelling in the smut that is Glenn, Michelle and Uncut. Did anyone else get reminded of Bill Clinton denying he had sex with Monica Lewinsky when Michelle said, 'I did not have sex in the house'? Could anyone else hear an echo of Slick Willy adding 'with that woman'?
Oh no, showing my brain, better get my dick out and tease Tim about being a weakling and Greg about being gay. Geez.
But thank you for the opportunity to vent a bit about Big Brother - it's been a while :)

Christie's surname is Mills.
Posted by: X | June 16, 2005 4:23 AM
According to Christie's mum.
"Christie says the most stupid things, but she does say it all the time - that's not a put on. She doesn't think before she speaks. She's generally very close to the word. Like with 'intellect', I know she meant to say intellectual. She wasn't an A-grade student at school. She could have done better if she really applied herself, but school was more a social event than a school event."

Why all the guessing about Christie's brains? You can see quite clearly that they are full, round and firm.

I wholly agree with you there.
I have a friend who seems like such a blonde, but they're really thoughtful and smart. Winning university awards for arts units, aceing essays, very dedicated to their work.

"Oh, did I say 96? I meant 69... Never was much good at maths."
Posted by: Robert | June 16, 2005 8:54 PM
Even if Christie is from NSW, maybe she went to school in Victoria.

I am in confliction about her comments. On one hand she is roooly intellect, on the other hand....oh wait, that hand is intellect as well!
Posted by: Wiz | June 18, 2005 5:00 PM
Without denigrating my own roots, she's as Shire as they come.
I'll eat my own Higher School Certificate if she got a TER of 96. Especially if she described it as a TER score', which is a little like sayingATM machine'.

Just you guys know, Christie went to Menai High School, she DID get a UAI, I dont know what score though. She was a friend to many of my own friends and from comments they've made, she didnt get 96... So she was probably just trying to shut dean up, i know i would. Just remember, most past housemates admitted that after a while they forget they were on national TV 24/7.

I hate you . u r so annoyin sayin those petty things. Would ya shutup

Add a "so" to my last comment, somewhere near the start.
Posted by: Shire Boy | June 18, 2005 7:39 PM
Christie Mills.
A mate of mine is a manager at a company where she used to work. I use the past tense because she was given the arse at the end of her probabtion, for being generally shithouse and useless, in a simple Office Admin Asst role.
She (apparently) used to fake one of her jobs (processing credit card payments from customers' phone orders) so it looked like she was finished and could go home - after she left they found hundreds of unprocessed payments, hidden behind her desk. Sounds like she has the work motivation to study her way to 96, hey?
Everyone gets a UAI. Even if it's "15 and below" or whatever. If you sit the HSC you get a mark/ranking, unless you specifically don't want one.
Posted by: EvilDan | June 20, 2005 11:07 AM
ROFL ... you're kidding. My significant other went to Menai High.
(By massive coincidence, he really did get a TER of 96....)
Posted by: Tripitaka | June 20, 2005 4:43 PM
The comment about getting a UAI wasnt to say she didnt get anything, it was to say she got a UAI rather than a TER. Next time read the previous comments to get the context correct.
