Is she The Australian’s equivalent of Piers Akerman? Andrew Bolt? I’m a bit disappointed I’d never read (or noticed I was reading) anything by her before, especially when she’s so delightfully conservative and proud of it.
I liked this article about Mark Latham’s schools policy.
I might have grabbed the wrong end of the stick and made an inappropriate gesture with it, but Mark hasn’t promised to slash funding to all private schools, has he? Just the few who are disgustingly wealthy? I went to the local Catholic private girls school and the whole place was adorably middle-class, in general. I didn’t see my school’s name on the hit list, nor most of the other local private schools. I did see some of the more obscenely cashed up private institutions on there though, and quite rightly.
Anyway, I’ve decided I adore Janet Albrechtsen. I adore her blatant conservative tendencies (is she the Anti-Margo?). I adore her attempts to blame Media Watch after they pointed out her misrepresentation of quotes. Mostly though, I adore how she looks like a poor man’s Ellen Barkin.

I've loved Janet for a long time! It's so good to read a conservative columnist who isn't afraid to let their emotions get completely away with them.

Wasn't she the journo that Mark Latham called a "Skanky Hoe"?

My god, you're right!
I think, if it's possible, I adore Mark even more.

Oh dear! You adore Mark Latham ? Is he perhaps not rather the lesser of two evils ? To me it's a choice between the somewhat corrupt unions or the somewhat corrupt and socially irresponsible large corporations being in control, with regards to the two major parties. Mind you, Latham's foreign policy is not as frightening as little Johnny's combination of incompetence, intolerance and subservience to US interests. And whilst Latham is economically untested, I don't consider the Coalitions broadening of the gulf between rich and poor and shift towards a user pays system for fundamental public services such as healthcare the good economic management that they claim it to be.

That's my one cent! *special election discount

Hope I'm not pushing the wrong buttons on a Labor stalwart ;)

No darling, no wrong buttons to push with me!
Meant to reply but I get so easily distracted sometimes. Damn alluring Janet Albrechtsen archives...
I've always said that Labor are nowhere NEAR the perfect political party, but that said they are indeed the lesser of two evils in this election. If they get into power, I'll feel more than comfortable giving Mark Latham the odd blog-journalistic kick up the botbot regarding things he can improve on.
But yeah, I kinda adore him in a westie way because he's a cheeky bugger (at least he was) and he does seem like a nice enough bloke. The kinda PM you could meet down your local for a schooner and a chat. Sure, he's a little hyprocritical when it comes to what's hurtful for him to say and what's hurtful for him to have said BACK to him, but who cares. Him or John Howard? Latham any day! I don't care if he IS on his L's plates!

Albrechtsen's comments about abortion and adoption are most likely linked to her own adoption as a child. Somthing she has never got really dealth with effectively. In her articles supporting adoption (for white middle class heterosexuals of course) she doesn't mention her own experience. Maybe it is a fear that she might have been aborted or even worse, adopted by gay parents. What would she be like then?
