Once upon a time I voted in the federal election for something called the “Natural Law Party.”
Why? Yogic Flyers. Anyone remember that? A political party whose campaign, as far as I know, centred around having a bunch of levitating dudes doing some…levitating. Fantastic stuff.
I found some of their advertising material over at lachlan.bluehaze.com.au.

What the fuck is the crap? Seems like they are some new-age hippies to me. Seriously who in their right mind would vote for them?

New age hippies perhaps. Maybe they were just having a laugh.
At any rate, my electorate is about as far from marginal as possible so... you know - vote for the underdog, even if they are nutcases.

Did you really vote for them Jess? Was this the last election?
I love their policies, and would have voted for them myself.

It was Patrick.

It's actually me posting here Crystal...I know it's rare but it does happen :)
I voted for them in 1998... or 2001. I'm not quite sure which one. Then again I think I might have voted for them on more than one occasion.
Do you know any more about them? I voted for them solely on the basis that I wanted the 7000 Yogic Flyers. Their promise of an integrated national consciousness in the first week after taking office sounds nice but it's the Yogic Flyers I'm interested in.

What the fuck are yogic flyers?
Posted by: paulyt69 | September 21, 2004 11:02 PM
I can only assume that they do yoga... and also fly.
Posted by: Patrick | September 21, 2004 11:03 PM
Hahaha...sorry, I just assumed. I've obviously got a blatant disregard for 'names at bottom of posts'.
No, I know nothing else about them, but they sound BRILLIANT from that leaflet. The levitating, the peace...it's all excellent.

I found a gold mine of information on the Natural Law Party in the form of a copy of their 1998 website at the National Library of Australia website.
Have a look

No updates since 98 though? sad face
Posted by: Crystal | September 23, 2004 6:37 PM
No, the website no longer exists. Actually, it seems the party no longer exists... in Australia anyway.

So where can I move so that I may vote for them?
Posted by: Crystal | September 23, 2004 8:14 PM
They shut up shop in the UK aswell. In fact, I can't find anything from them since 2001 - though admittedly I didn't look all that hard.
Perhaps they transcended this mortal life? Or perhaps they went out of business? I don't know.

They're getting the yogic flyers updated then making a comeback.
Posted by: paulyt69 | September 26, 2004 4:17 PM
Haha.
I wonder what type of upgrades they're making to them?
Posted by: Patrick | September 26, 2004 4:26 PM
I just checked out their website then and its hilarious. I ecspecially loved the bit where they say that if they were voted in, they would encourage the unemployed and the elderly to train as yogic flyers. Classic!

Well, i think i can clear up the "yogic flying" thing, i remember seeing a completely objective piece on 60 minutes about yogic flyers. The report showed extensive footage of groups of people in the lotus position propelling themselves forward repeatedly over gym mats with their knees. THey referred to this as "yogic flying". They said it made them feel great, brought them closer to the top of gods list and gave the added bonus of sculpting rock hard buns and thighs.

So they don't levitate? Now I regret voting for them!

"The physical manifestations of the "Yogic Flying" vary with the practitioner. The Yoga Sutras of Mahrishi Patanjali describes three stages of immediately visible results. Stage One is generally associated with what would best be described as "hopping like a frog." Stage Two is flying through the air for a short time. Stage Three is complete mastery of the sky. The above photo and all "Yogic Flying" demonstrations to date depict Stage One results."
