The Results Show | The Wildcard Round

Without dwelling too much on tonight’s results, I am rather chuffed to see that yet again ausculture.com have picked the three finalists, although I must admit it’s a little unfair when we list five people in our Top Three. Casey pulled out another powerhouse performance, Ricky-Lee was as bouncy and perky (no, really - I’m not refering to her breasts again, I promise) as her name would have you think, and even Dan made a dull song seem remotely better than it is. Well, I did have it on mute…

As for the impending Wildcard round - who do you reckon will get another chance? Personally, I think the following people are shoe ins. Hopefully.

It’s true! I’m not lying! I’ll get you, McKenzie!

Bonus Useless Points
If you can guess where that last line came from!

Oh, alright. Here’s my serious list of contenders.

I’m torn between the last two.

Torn. Why be torn? You can have both Emelia and Billie, I'm sure neither of them mind!

In my vague womblings around the net I've found it interesting how sure people are that Ben's going to get another chance. I mean, I want him to also, but I think our only true guarantees are those who came fourth in their respective semi-finals. That being said, on buzz alone the guy's practically a shoo-in. Which is good, as he's very pleasing to the eye and not displeasing to the ear. Plus, it would be nice for the two most attractive fellows from the competition to get in.

Ben's the only other guy in the top 30 I would want to get in, though it's not like I'd hate it if Marty made it also, and he's definitely in for the wild-card. Last year, they allowed anyone from the top 100 in to the wild-card, but that would just have been so Mark Holden could get his paws on Liban again. If that were to happen now - well, considering they brought back Yasmine, they could bring back the Pig-Faced Boy Struck Down By God.

As that idea's too terrible, however, I'm not even going to consider it. Instead, my choices for eight (out of, I suppose, a possible ten) Wild Card entries:

  1. Ngaiire
  2. Liza
  3. Marty
  4. Ben
  5. Billie
  6. Emelia
  7. Emily
  8. Yasmine (ha! Yes, I do have the brain-worms. But on the other hand, she's energetic and could get a chance to show that she can feign class.)

I dread the return of Gabriel, Barry, Garth or Carlos - I wouldn't even mind Carlos so much if he wasn't such a godawful melismatron. However, I reckon the wild-card will be the first show with even male/female numbers this year. I'm also kind of curious as to who the judges will pick to send through, as unless they pick Emelia's potential to build on I've no idea what they'll choose.

But to think, this time last year the semi-finals had been consistently disappointing, and I was hoping against hope for the wild card show to send through at least one of my favoured picks. Man, looking back, I liked only two of the people the public sent through. The voting audience has grown taste since then - who knew it could happen?

I've bought the cheese and cucumber sandwiches - oddly delicious, would you believe!

You're really, really sold on Marty, aren't you? He didn't do all that much for me on Sunday night I must admit, and watching the snippet of his performance they broadcast last night, I couldn't help but feel that it looked as though he was doing a poo. What was with all the bouncing and squatting?!

I ignored the Top 100 possibility for much the same reason as you did - you managed to get half the idiots off our screens before, judges! Don't bring 'em back now!

Emily was pretty good I suppose (although I wasn't HUGELY impressed with her) but she's just so childlike, I feel terrible subjecting her to the rigours of record company manipu... erm, I mean - the pop industry. Course, Casey's the same age but somehow seems a lot tougher.

Yasmine? Yasmine?! Her mid-song fierce grins would have irritated the beejesus out of me by the first week in, and I suppose the same could be said for Garth's head-jerk\hand-click combo. Still, Garth seemed more sincere to me than ol' Yasmine.

The quality this year is astoundingly better than that of last year. In fact, I don't think many of last year's Top Twelve would have made it into the Top 30 this year. And the public have got it (mostly) right this time around, and I've only needed to vote once! Well, numerous time but all for my dear Chanel. Oh, I hope she kicks the arse I'm praying her to kick once the rounds start happening!

I'm not so much sold on Marty, as I am absolutely certain he'll be in the wild-card round. I don't mind him - which, considering the batch of guys in the semi-finals so far, is pretty high praise, considering. As for his movements, well, I'm sure they can be beaten out of him.

Emily was good, composed (no Lauren histrionics) and I reckon they might give her a second chance. Giving us at least 'Why the long face?' jokes to last us for her further time in the spotlight.

Yasmine ... hmm. I think they'd bring her back for the wildcard to see whether she could demonstrate class, much as I reckon they'd bring back Billie so she could demonstrate versatility. I don't think she'd make it into the top twelve, but I wouldn't mind seeing her perform again. My own little cross to bear, this liking of her, I know.

But all hopes reside on Chanel living up to her promise of being fantastic. Australian public, at least let her last until the big band night...
